Day 12: Gallup (NM) - Flagstaff (AZ) via Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Park (218 miles)

On day 12, Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Park were on the schedule. The colors in Painted Desert were striking, even as the sky clouded up and some rain fell. After an amazing day in the National Park we enjoyed driving into the sunset on Route 66.

So far we completed 3033 miles of our trip and crossed 12 states (MA, NY, PA, OH, IN, IL, MO, KS, OK, TX, NM, AZ) and four time zones.
