Day 5: St. Louis (MO) - Springfield (MO) (238 miles)

We spent day 5 exclusively on Historic Route 66 (which runs mostly parallel to I-44). After crossing the Mississippi river in St.Louis, landscape changed dramatically from all flat and fence to fence high yield agriculture to forest covered hills with occasional farming and cattle on the pasture. Though we have to pretend to feel the spirit of the past every once in a while, Old Route 66 is the much better alternative to the interstate highway I-44 and we could have photographed hundreds of traditional (and sometimes even genuinely old) motel signs, roadside diners, gas stations and abandoned buildings...

So far we completed 1580 miles of our trip and crossed 7 states (MA, NY, PA, OH, IN, IL, MO) and two time zones. To date we also filled up the windshield washer liquid for our Chevy Tahoe two times (1 Gallon per filling, cf. photo below).
