Most of our 276 miles on day four were on Old Route 66 (the 'Mother Road'). Besides the actual Route 66 attractions (diners, gas stations and other 'historic' buildings) we crossed many acres of farmland (the famous Corn Belt). After a tour of Abraham Lincoln's house in Springfield (IL) we ended the day with a ride to the top of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis (MO) (192m) - the 'Gateway to the West' (how appropriate on this trip...).
So far we completed 1342 miles of our trip and crossed 7 states (MA, NY, PA, OH, IN, IL, MO) and two time zones.
